Al Bennett files for the 61st Civil District Court

Al Bennett filed the required petitions and application to become a candidate for the Democratic nomination for the 61st Civil District Court of Harris County.

Al brings years of legal experience to the race, including nearly a decade of solo practice specializing in business law. Prior to his solo practice, Bennett was associated with the firms of Solar & Fernandes, L.L.P. and Fulbright & Jaworski, L.L.P. Al is also an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Thurgood Marshall School of Law and a certified mediator.

“I look forward to running a strong and winning campaign which will result in a new era of Democratic judges at the Harris County Courthouse,” Bennett said as he filed for office. He added, “I believe the experience I’ve gained in the courthouse and out in the community will allow me to bring a balanced prospective to this important and historic civil bench.”

Al is a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Houston. He has been active in various bar associations, including serving on a State Bar of Texas Grievance Committee. He has received the Houston Lawyers’ Association Achievement Award, the Thurgood Marshall Legal Society Distinguished Service Award and is rated AV (very high to preeminent legal ability) in the Martindale-Hubbell Legal Directory. In addition, Bennett has served on the board of directors of the OST/Almeda Corridors Redevelopment Authority, the East Downtown Management District, and is currently president of his neighborhood association, the Parkwood Drive Civic Club. In 2006, Al Bennett was a candidate for State Representative, District 146.
